Did Noah take dinosaurs on the ark?

I get this question a lot from people.  If the world was only 6000 years old, then Noah would have surely taken dinosaurs onto the ark.  I won’t claim to know if they were considered clean (take 7 pairs onto the ark) or unclean (only 2 pairs), but Noah did take dinosaurs onto the ark.

One argument I’ve heard was, “Dinosaurs were too big to fit on the ark and there wasn’t enough space for them and their food.”  My response to this question is quite simple.  Noah took young animals on board.  Why would he take mature animals?  They eat more, they’ll don’t live as long and therefore bear less children.  One side note, there was a discussion recently about the space needed to have every animal (not every variant) on the ark, even with full grown animals, including dinosaurs, there was plenty of space.

Another question I get revolves around, “Why don’t we see them anymore?  If the world happens to be so young, then dinosaurs would be everywhere.”  My retort to that happens to be same for the American Wolf, American Lion and the various bears that roam the world.  Humans drove them out and/or to extinction.  When the colonists settled the US, there was over 3 million bison in this country.  How many are there now?

History has a long documented them.  People didn’t call them dinosaurs until around 1841/2 when Sir Richard Owen coined the name.  Before that, they were commonly referred to as dragons.  We see this because the King James Version of the bible speaks of dragons and was written hundreds of years before the name dinosaur was coined. 

In addition, there are thousands of stories in various cultures about dragons and sea monsters.  Job 40:15 talks about Behemoth.  If you read the passage, you can picture a Brachiosaurus.  Later on he talks about Leviathan, which easily could be a Plesiosaur or other sea faring dinosaur. 

There are so many pictures from ancient societies that accurately depict dinosaurs.  Why else would the Chinese have eleven real animals and put one fictional dragon in their calendar?  Because the dragon was really a dinosaur.

Blizzard

Well Pittsburgh saw today another rain storm that would turn into a blizzard.  In the last few days we've accumulated nearly nine inches of snow.  While we don't have the sunny days that Denver has which melts all their snow by afternoon, nor do we have the persistent snow that lasts till April like in Ottawa, Pittsburgh's weather is mostly unique across the US.

Since Pittsburgh sits on the western side of the Allegheny Mountains, humidity and nasty weather can build up before dumping it on the city.  Pittsburgh doesn't endure tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, droughts or even insect swarms that affect most of the US. 

Pittsburgh can have very difficult winters where temperatures can drop below zero, dump feet of snow and cold temperatures can last nearly 6 months. 

There are reports that even Seattle, WA now has more sunny days than the 'burgh.  That's all well and good.  While most of the city would love to have 300 days of sun like Phoenix, we do have the snow.  The sleds, skis and snowboards all come out of the closet, which also brings out the kid in all of us. 

Day after Christmas

In Matthew chapter 2, we find the wise men approaching Herod and ultimately the baby Jesus after his birth.  In this time, his birth caught many people by surprise.  The chief priests, keepers of the law and other knowledgeable religious folks failed to see the signs that were before them.

The wise men, who many regard as the most intelligent people of their time or at least the ones with their eyes open, saw the star in the sky that shown the way to Christ.  While there has been much debate on what that star was, it led the wise men directly to Jesus. It was also very common during this time for people to be strong proponents of astrology and relentlessly studying the stars. 

In many ways, Christ will do that in our lives.  He places signs, many in plain sight, in how we should lead our lives.  People can go throughout the day without noticing them.  We should only be so lucky to be like the wise men and see the signs as they appear so we too may find our way to Christ.
